18th Dec. Housework

「Housework」

↑I didn’t go skiing because my ski field Kashimayari is not open entirely now so I washed my normal tires instead. It will be in my house storeroom until next April.

↑In the afternoon, I went shopping to buy warm pants for the winter especially for a skating next Thursday. I bought two pants.

↑Following that, I bought rice. Though Azumino city’s rice (my place) is cheaper, I chose this rice which is made in Miyagi prefecture. Miyagi is the place where the earthquake and tsunami hit in March this year. The farmers around the tsunami area are trying to recover from its damage.

↑I made curry & rice from scratch. It was delicious.

↑By the way, I’m using a very old mobile phone called docomo mova. The service is almost over (until next March) so the company docomo is encouraging me to change it to a new one, but I will not change it, because I want to use it until it finishes. Even if my mobile phone is old-fashioned, I don’t feel inconvenience because all outdated equipments in Japan are much better than Tongan life. I don’t want to forget good Tongan memories.

17th Dec. Studless Tire

「Studless Tire」

↑I changed normal tires to studless tires (snow tires).

↑Immediately I went skiing at Kashimayari. It takes me 40 minutes to get there and I have a season ticket.

↑Though Shiga-Kogen has enough snow, Kashimayari doesn’t. Now only 1 chair lift and 1 course are available. A lot of people were waiting their turn, and the course was so crowded.
After an hour, I finished skiing and went to a spa which is located next to the ski field.

↑On the way back to my house, I went shopping and bought a lot of seasoning. Of course, Japanese shops have plenty of seasonings which I couldn’t buy in Tonga. I’m very glad to find them.

↑I made stir-fried vegetables. I didn’t made it in Tonga, so maybe I have not made it for 10 years but it was delicious. I may be good at cooking.

↑At gymnasium in my school, I skated with my roller boots. I am supposed to go skating with my kids next Thursday so I practiced. Although I haven’t gone skating more than 6 years I must be able to do it because I practiced hard today.

16th Dec. YAMANEKO from Korea

「YAMANEKO from Korea」

YAMANEKO photos have come from overseas. Thank you so much! This time it came from South Korea.

↑From Marie who was an American Peace Corps volunteer in Tonga (Eastern District)
16th Dec. 2011
She has been my close friend since we were in Tonga. She belonged to the American Peace Corps volunteer, same group as Melissa, and finished her work some days ago. Thank you for your trouble over the last two years. On the way back to the US, she visited South Korea to visit her roommate from university in Virginia and sent me very nice YAMANEKO photos. Thank you Marie!
This is the article when I gave her YAMANEKO on 8 May. 2010. Oh time flies…

「Nail YAMANEKO」

↑In the art class, my students made woodwork with a nail and hammer.

↑I made my special YAMANEKO with a lot of nails.

10th Dec. The First Skiing

「The First Skiing」

↑I went skiing at Shiga-Kougen with my ski club members on Saturday and Sunday. Shiga-Kougen is famous for one of the main places of the Nagano Winter Olympics game in 1998.

↑A lot of skiers came together from the whole Nagano prefecture and Tokyo.

↑We learned a new ski method from special instructors who are the greatest authority in our association SAJ (Ski Association of Japan). I have not gone skiing in Japan for 2 years so the method seemed to be very new for me. I have to update my knowledge.

↑At our hotel, we ate a lot of delicious food. Oh…it’s too luxurious for me. My body is not good at eating expensive food, because I was in Tonga for two years. Yet I was satisfied with the meal.

9th Dec. Certification for an Old Man

「Certification for an Old Man」

↑It snowed a little bit. Though it melted immediately I was happy.

↑When we have a break, I always play with my classroom kids. This is the most famous play “Oyaji Kentei”. Kentei means certification and Oyaji means…what can I say?? Oyaji is the word, which expresses an old man, and we usually use the word in a friendly manner, so there is warmth in the word “Oyaji”
We have to overcome a lot of playground equipments during the break time, at the end of the play; we can improve our Oyaji levels. Now I’m in the level 11, so I’d like to be a great Oyaji (Level 3,2,1 or more advanced levels.) Actually there are a few great Oyaji kids in my class.
Yet I’m not sure why they want to be an Oyaji…they are very young.

↑In the evening, we had a dinner party. Old classroom teachers, who were in my school before and were in charge of the same age students, came together. Although I was not the member of the group, I was invited to the party as a special guest. Maybe because, I came back from Tonga. We talked a lot and had a very good time.

5th Dec. We moved seats

「We moved seats.」

↑We moved our seats with lots. From now, I want to do it every 2 months.

↑After school, my class room becomes very calm. I have to remember where they are sitting.

4th Dec. Ski Training

「Ski Training」

↑I went to Omachi-city with my ski school’s members. We have to participate in the training at least once in 2 years otherwise we will lose our license. Yet I have not participated in it more than 2 years because I was in Tonga. Of course I was accepted my reason.
Next week, we will go to Shiga-kougen ski field for another training (on the snow).

↑I found some of new techniques, so I have to update my knowledge. The theme of this season seems to be “Hybrid Skiing”.

↑Omachi-city has many beautiful snow mountains as well.

↑On the way back to my house, I visited the “Daiou Wasabi Nouen”(horseradish field). The scenery is always nice.

↑I made my special Mabo-tofu. I used only whole bulb of garlic. Today, I also used minced meat.

3rd Dec. Yellow YAMANEKO & Dumpling.

「Yellow YAMANEKO & Dumpling」

↑I made two yellow YAMANEKO. One of my colleagues asked me to make it. Next time, I’ll make a black one.

↑After a long time away, I visited the restaurant called Kakyou. Normally, we have to take its menu away, (11am-2pm, 5pm-8pm), because it opens only for 2 hours (6pm- 8pm). Although the restaurant is very lazy, a lot of customers come, maybe because the dumpling menus are delicious.

2nd Dec. Snow has come.

「Snow has come.」

↑Here is my school. It was snowing for 3 hours in the morning. I’m glad to meet the snowman.
