Preparations for the winter
11月27日 冬支度だぞ

I was busy preparing for winter. Today’s low temperature was minus 2 degrees. I can experience winter after 3 straight years’ of summer.

I made curry & rice from scratch. It was just as delicious as I made it in Tonga.

26th Nov. Trekking along a discontinued line

Trekking along a discontinued line
11月26日 廃線トレッキングだぞ

This is our symbol Jounen-dake mountain. It’s covered with snow now. Wow!

I can see the mountain from my house,

from Jikkaseki weir,

from my school or from anywhere in my district, Azumino.

These mountains (mountain range) belong to Hakuba district.

Since it was very fine today, I decided to go for a walk along a discontinued line.

It took me 3 hours (12 km) to make a round trip. We can see a lot of nice sceneries around there.

On the way back to my house, I went to Apple Land, which is the most famous local super market in Nagano, to buy materials and seasoning to make curry and rice. Then I found an interesting flavor. “Yukimi Daifuku” is well-known ice cream but it was my first time to see this flavor. Of course I bought it and it was delicious and luxurious.

After the super market, I visited the Chinese restaurant owned by Chinese. I like this restaurant.

23rd Nov. Meeting with my former students

Meeting with my former students
11月23日 同窓会だぞ

When they graduated ,Mar. 2009 (when I left Nagano prefecture to prepare for Tonga), we decided that we would meet on 23 Nov. 2011.
About 70 % students came together in my present class room. Though I remember their name correctly, I couldn’t identify some of them because they have grown up remarkably. They are students preparing for an entrance examination, so after my presentation about Tonga, I encourage them to do their best. I hope all of you have good luck.

At last, I got this special item “Pressure Washer”. It cost 6,000 yen (US$65) I saw it in the JICA dormitory in Tonga and sometimes I washed my extra bicycle with it. I wanted to buy it for a long time. From now on, I can wash my extra bicycle all I wanted for my aggressive walking.

20th Nov. Old-Fashioned Building

Old-Fashioned Building
11月20日 古風な建物だぞ

I went around my district with my colleagues as a teachers’ study and training. Our district has a lot of old-fashioned building and statues.

This is one of cultural assets “Yamaguchi-ke” but not my house.

After that, we visited the place which used the drama called “Ohisama”. I don’t know this drama because it finished in September this year, and I came back from Tonga in September.

I saw a lot of monkeys. My workplace and my house are very close to their house.

At the end of the study and training, I ate soba, buckwheat noodles, at last. Of course it was delicious.

19th Nov. Chinese Restaurant

Chinese Restaurant
11月19日 中華料理店だぞ

It was raining all day long. Around noon, I visited my car dealer to order a snow tire for winter.

Following that, I went to a Chinese restaurant. It was new-built restaurant when I left for Tonga and it’s owned by Chinese people. The menus are very cheap and delicious.

There are a lot of Chinese restaurant in Tonga, but we rarely find Chinese owned restaurant in Japan, so I looked back upon Tongan life.
Chinese owners make its menu in Japanese language so sometimes we find mistakes. It’s funny.

I think, 6 o’clock PM is not a lunch time menu. I remember the interesting sign, which is written in English by Chinese owner, in Vava’u Island.

In the evening, I made Chinese noodles with the special seasoning wei pah (I don’t know its spelling…). I did it in Tonga before. It was delicious.

18th Nov. We took a look.

We took a look.
11月18日 下見だぞ

I went to Nagano city (the prefectural capital) with colleagues to took a look at M-wave, skating rink, before our skate class. When the Nagano Olympic game came, speed skating event was held here. We are supposed to come here and have a skate class next month. More than half of my students have no experience of skating, so I guess it will be a hard event for them.

YAMANEKO has already been popular among my students. I’m drawing YAMANEKO when my students submit their homework correctly. They want to draw YAMANEKO on a blackboard when short time breaks.
I have to make YAMANEKO doll as soon as possible because I have not made it after I came back to Japan.

13th Nov. Cooking

11月13日 料理だぞ

Since I was making my special Mabo-tofu in Tonga many times, I decided to make it in Japan as well. I have not made any food more than 5 years (since I became a teacher).

The garlic, which is made in Japan, is very expensive. It costs for 200 yen (US$2.5) so I used only a whole bulb of garlic. I used to add three whole bulbs of garlic in Tonga. I don’t have a rice cooker, but I don’t care about it, because I have an enough skill to make boiled rice with a pan.

I like this soft drink since I was a child, but I’m too shy to buy it because the package has very cute picture. Today, I managed to buy it.
