9th Jan. Buckwheat Noodles

「Buckwheat Noodles」

↑It was very fine today, and I could see this mountain called Kurohime. When I was a university student in Nagano-city, I went skiing at Kurohime more than 50 times in one season.
I experienced a good ski camp with two special instructors.

↑On the way back from Togakushi ski field, I saw this sign which means there is a devil on this sharp turn in the road. Togakushi district has a great many ups and downs.

↑I visited the buckwheat noodles restaurant “Ohkubo no chaya” before I left Togakushi and ordered this menu. I think Ohkubo no chaya’s buckwheat noodles it the best of all. Tempuras (deep-fried fish and vegetables) are delicious as well.

↑On the way back to my house in Azumino-city, I went to the temple “Zenkou ji” for a little while. It’s the treasure of the country. I used to live near Zenkou ji when I was in my university.

↑When I came here before Tonga, the gate was under repair but now it has been completed.

「My Accommodation」

↑This is my accommodation “Ohkubo no chaya”. The restaurant serves delicious buckwheat noodles so when you come to Togakushi, you should drop into the restaurant. The telephone No. is 026-254-2062, Fax No. is 026-254-3383 and its Home Page URL is http://www.ookubonotyaya.jp/

↑It’s not so cold today and a scenery was fine.

↑On the way back from Togakushi ski field, I called on Maki who worked together with me at Ohkubo no chaya and is working for a primary school as well. Thought she is much younger than I, she got married and gave a birth while I was in Tonga. Amazing! ‘Ohovale ‘aupito. By chance she was in her parents’ house.
The baby is Sakura, she was born in August last year and is very cute and smart.

7th Jan. Togakushi Village

「Togakushi Village」

↑I have never come to Togakushi without visiting this shrine called Suzakura. The cherry blossom is very old; someone says it’s more than 2,000 years old.

↑The morning sun and my car “Super Every”

↑This is Daizaboushi lake. In winter it freezes and covered with snow.

↑Togakushi is famous for soba, buckwheat noodles, and I used to work for the restaurant “Ohkubo no chaya”. I called on the owners after a long time away and thank to owners’ power, I got a complimentary ticket (for free). Malo ‘aupito ‘aupito. In addition, the ski lesson I take continues for 3 days, so I can stay in this soba restaurant as my accommodation. I really appreciate.

↑Togakushi is one of a sacred mountain in Japan and the mountain is very steep. The ski field is located on 2,000m high so it’s very cold. That’s the same as Mt. Asama.

「The First Day Of My School」

↑I’ve started working, but only teachers came together and prepared for a new school period. Our students will come to school from next Tuesday. We have three straight holidays from tomorrow, so I’ll go skiing to Togakushi and will participate in a special ski camp. I can’t wait, because recently I don’t go skiing so much.

5th Jan. Deep Snow

「Deep Snow」

↑It was snowing heavily, and…

↑the final chair lift, which had not worked yet, started working.

↑Thanks to the chair lift, I enjoyed skiing on a fresh and deep snow a lot. How thrilling the course is! I’m not off course (not dangerous), I am not a violator, and the course was just closed.
Anyway, skiing with taping movie is dangerous so I don’t recommend you to do it.

↑Thank you for working!

4th Jan. Mt. Asama

「Mt. Asama」

↑After a long time away, I visited the ski field called Asama 2000. It’s located on 2000m high so my instant noodle cup filled out. Fantastic!
Asama is famous for its volcano.

↑Thanks to a special reason, I can buy this ticket for 2,000 yen (US$22). Amazing!

↑It was snowing heavily and was freezing all day long, but I don’t care about the weather except for heavy rain. Bad weather makes good snow in addition less skiers and snowboarders come.

2nd Jan. Shopping

「Shopping」

↑I went to Matsumoto city to buy a special ski equipment called “Diamond something” (I don’t know the real name.) The equipment contains powder diamonds and it makes ski edges sharp. It cost 4,200 yen (US$45). Very expensive!!
I used to have it but when I moved to Osaka before Tonga, I lost it.

↑In 2008, I bought this shoes for 30,000 yen (US$ 330). Thanks to its sole, it loses our balance so we try to keep balance. It means the shoes help us to improve our ski level.
I brought it to Tonga but maybe because of Tongan temperature, it was broken. I asked the staff to resole it. It cost 13,000 yen (cheaper than buying a new one).

↑This is Matsumoto-jo castle which is a national treasure. There are only 4 national treasure castles in Japan, Himeji castle in Hyougo prefecture, Inuyama castle in Aichi prefecture, Hikone castle in Shiga prefecture and Matsumoto castle in Nagano prefecture.

↑Wild ducks look cold.

↑This is one of the main streets from Matsumoto castle called “Daimyou Douri”

↑After the ski shop, I visited 3 shrines. This is Fukashi shrine which is famous as a stage setting of the drama “Hakusen Nagashi”

↑This is “Nawate douri” shopping district. It remains old style.

↑This is Yohashira shrine. Many people were waiting their turn to visit their grave.

↑This is Matsumoto shrine which is located beside Matsumoto castle. It’s very small shrine and is minor so there were no people.

↑After I came back to my house, I found my previous “Diamond something”…Oh my goodness.

1st Jan. Happy New Year

「Happy New Year」

I wish you a happy New Year!
This day last year, I was in ‘Eua with my sister. Oh…time really flies.

↑Happy New Year! This is the first sunrise of this year. I watched it in front of my house. How beautiful the sunrise is!

↑The first sunrise beside a railway crossing.

↑It was the New Year’ Day so I went skiing at Kashimayari as usual. Though I’m poor at a long turn, I improved it a little bit. I skied from 8:30 to 15:00 without any rest and lunch.

↑Oh! It’s the 1st January today!

↑I want one more 7.

↑Ko hoku hingoa ko Tolu, ‘Oku ou ta’u tolu tolu.

↑The shelf in my car is working very well.

↑Thanks to the shelf, I can use space effectively.

↑On the way back to my house, I visited Hotaka-jinja shrine. Japanese people go to a shrine. In general, we are allowed to go to any shrine and any time we want, not so strict like Tonga (or we may be able to say that we are very loose about a religion). Yet, the situation may be proper as a developed country’s resident.

↑I got Dai-kichi (the best precept of a written fortune= very good luck!). This near must be very good!

↑I made the first dinner myself. I ate tofu, cabbage, onion salad, sashimi (raw fish of tuna and salmon), nattou (fermented soybeans) and boiled rice.

↑My favorite food is “Garlic Rice” Ifo ‘aupito ‘aupito. Very delicious!
